Job Description:
WebOsmotic is looking for an experienced WordPress Backend Developer with 3+ years of hands-on experience in WordPress development. The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in WordPress backend development, custom plugin development, API integrations, automation, database management, and third-party integrations.
This role is focused primarily on the backend and functional development of WordPress websites, including building custom plugins, developing custom functionality, integrating external platforms and APIs, working with Zapier and other automation tools, troubleshooting complex issues, and ensuring websites are secure, scalable, and reliable.
The candidate should be comfortable working independently on complex WordPress requirements and translating business requirements into robust technical solutions.

Required Skills:
- 3+ years of professional experience in WordPress development, with strong backend expertise
- Strong knowledge of PHP, WordPress Core, MySQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and REST APIs
- Strong experience in custom WordPress plugin development from scratch
- Experience developing custom WordPress functionality using actions, filters, hooks, custom post types, taxonomies, and metadata
- Strong understanding of WordPress database structure and MySQL queries
- Experience integrating third-party APIs and services with WordPress
- Hands-on experience with Zapier integrations, Pipedrive integrations, and workflow automation
- Experience working with webhooks, REST APIs, JSON, OAuth, and API authentication
- Experience integrating platforms such as CRM, email marketing, payment gateways, lead management systems, and other third-party applications
- Strong understanding of WordPress security, performance optimization, caching, and troubleshooting
- Experience debugging WordPress/PHP errors and resolving plugin and theme conflicts
- Good understanding of Git/version control and development workflows
- Ability to work with existing WordPress codebases and understand/debug code written by other developers
- Experience with WooCommerce backend/customization is a plus
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain custom WordPress plugins and backend functionality based on business requirements
- Build custom integrations between WordPress and third-party platforms using REST APIs, webhooks, and custom API solutions
- Develop and manage Zapier-based automation workflows and connect WordPress with external applications
- Create custom WordPress features using PHP, WordPress hooks, filters, APIs, custom post types, and database queries
- Integrate WordPress websites with CRMs, payment gateways, email platforms, analytics tools, lead management systems, and other third-party services
- Develop reusable and scalable backend solutions instead of relying solely on existing plugins
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex PHP, WordPress, plugin, API, database, and integration issues
- Review existing WordPress code and improve functionality, performance, security, and maintainability
- Work with WordPress databases and perform database-level troubleshooting and optimization when required
- Implement and maintain secure coding practices across WordPress websites
- Optimize backend performance, including database queries, API requests, plugin execution, and server-side functionality
- Handle WordPress migrations, backups, staging environments, deployments, and production fixes
- Identify compatibility issues between WordPress Core, plugins, themes, PHP versions, and third-party services
- Collaborate with project managers, frontend developers, designers, QA, and other technical team members to deliver complete solutions
- Understand client requirements and convert them into technically sound WordPress solutions
- Maintain clean, documented, and reusable code following WordPress development standards
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field is preferred
- 3+ years of hands-on experience specifically in WordPress backend development
- Proven experience building and maintaining custom WordPress plugins
- Experience working on complex WordPress integrations and automation projects
- Strong experience with Zapier, APIs, webhooks, and third-party integrations
- Experience with WooCommerce development and customizations is an advantage
- Experience with WordPress security and malware troubleshooting is an advantage
- Familiarity with Git, GitHub/GitLab, staging environments, and deployment processes
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
- Ability to independently analyze requirements and provide practical technical solutions
